Spotlight on Borrego Springs.

One of our staff’s absolute favorite getaway spots is Borrego.  Borrego Springs is a unique and beautiful destination that offers a wide range of attractions and activities for visitors to enjoy.

Natural beauty: The town is located in the Colorado Desert, which is known for its stunning landscapes and diverse plant and animal life. The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (California’s largest National Park) is located nearby and offers a wide range of hiking and biking trails, as well as opportunities for birdwatching, wildflower viewing, and other outdoor activities.  This state park is literally across the street from Moonlit Retreat and a quick walk from Starlit Ranch.

Outdoor recreation: Borrego Springs is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts, with a number of recreational activities available such as ATV and motorbiking, hiking, biking, and golfing.

Relaxing atmosphere: Borrego Springs has a small town atmosphere and is known for its laid-back, relaxed pace of life. It is a great place to escape the stresses of city life and enjoy a more relaxed and peaceful environment.

Stargazing: Borrego Springs is known for its dark skies, which make it a popular destination for stargazing. The town is home to the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park’s Borrego Springs Dark Sky Community, which is dedicated to preserving the area’s dark skies for stargazing and astronomical research.

Large Metal Sculptures:  Borrego is home to a collection of over 130 metal sculptures created by artist Ricardo Breceda. The sculptures are located throughout the town and depict a wide range of subjects, including animals, dinosaurs, and figures from local Native American mythology. The sculptures, which are made from steel and stainless steel, are often larger-than-life in size and are meant to be viewed from a distance. The collection is known as the “Galleta Meadows Estate” and is one of the largest outdoor metal sculpture exhibits in the world.

Overall, Borrego Springs is a great destination for those who appreciate nature and enjoy outdoor activities, as well as those who are looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway.  Both Starlit Retreat and Moonlit Ranch are close to the heart of Borrego.
